10 Tips for Creating Compelling Video for Social Media
These days everyone has a channel - how do you get your ideal client to stop scrolling through their social media and stop to watch YOUR channel? Here are our TOP TEN TIPS to optimise your video and make compelling video content for social media:
TELL A STORY
Plan ahead and have a story board in place, tell your clients how you can solve their problem, use a story to show how you work. The best videos are always well planned with plenty of time spent in pre-production.
KEEP IT SHORT
Our audience these days are busy people with the attention span of a goldfish! You need to get your story told in as short a space of time as possible - 1 - 3 minutes is optimal for Social Media.
CAPTURE ATTENTION
This has to be done in the first 3-10 seconds of your video - as we said above, our audiences these days have very small attention spans - your video needs to capture their attention and FAST.
USE A TRIPOD
Keep your camera steady - unless you’re a professional and have gimbals, it’s pretty difficult to keep a steady camera without a tripod and a shaky video is a sure sign of a poor production.
LIGHTING IS KEY
Ensure your subject is well lit and not back lit - dark filming spaces cause grainy video and therefore poor quality
AUDIO IS SUPER IMPORTANT
Ensure you have a microphone if your message is important - poor audio is also a sign of a poor production.
USE SUBTITLES
Where are your audience watching your video? Often busy commuters will watch their content whilst on the train on the commute home, with the audio switched off - ensure your message is seen with the audio on or off.
PLEASE SHOOT LANDSCAPE!!
Please, please, PLEASE! Do not film your video portrait style unless you are using it for an Instagram story!
EDIT
Trim any unnecessary content or dead space with an editing tool - you don’t need to get an expensive video editing software, there are plenty of free editing tools available, but editing is vital to produce slick content.
HAVE A CALL TO ACTION
Why have you made the video? What do you want your viewers to do after watching? Ensure you have a Call to Action!
