Spring Clean + Declutter = Dream Home Makeover
Simple tips to love the home you live in
We are property photographers and spend every day in other people’s homes - this has inspired us to make the best of our own home.
Spring is on it’s way, and, let’s be honest, you have probably ‘spring cleaned’ quite frequently during lock down, because there hasn’t been much else to do! Or, if you haven’t, and you’d like a fresh new look for your home and you’re tired of getting envious of the homes we get to film and photograph (I mean who doesn’t? - we certainly get envious several times a week!) Here are a couple of hints and tips to get a dream home make-over without breaking the bank:
Working from Home
This darned virus is taking it’s sweet time to be gone, so if you you’re working from the kitchen table or on your lap in the lounge, it’s high time you set up a dedicated work space. We have seen loads of home offices over the past year, from small dedicated spaces under the stairs to large converted bedroom offices, to adding a desk into a corner of a bedroom. Where we work and how we work really affects our wellness and productivity - create a space that is both comfortable and exciting to work in. Add a splash of colour, on a grand scale wallpaper on a smaller scale, a weeping pot plant or a vase of fresh flowers. Most important, ensure your seating is comfortable and you have plenty of light.
Add a Splash of colour
You don’t need to redecorate your whole house, but a simple lick of paint or fancy wallpaper on a feature wall can transform a room. Repurposing and upcycling furniture is also very on trend at the moment, not only to save the environment, but let’s face it, finances have been rather tight over the past year. Have you got an old chair that could do with a loving make over and become a bright feature in your hallway? Expensive art isn’t needed to dress up a room, mirrors work wonders and add light and a sense of space), or how about framing some of your children’s art work?
Indoor plants add life to your home.
There are so many benefits to having plants in your home, fresh cut flowers uplift the senses, and green pot plants bring a real comfort of bringing nature indoors, which adds calm and a sense of peace. Plants are also great for improving the quality of air in our homes too as they feed on carbon dioxide and expel oxygen, and filter pollutants (that’s your biology lesson for the day!) If you are a ‘black thumbed’ indoor gardener and battle to keep plants alive, then Ikea have a fabulous range of very realistic looking plants that add all the aesthetic without having to remember to water or feed your plants!
Declutter your Kitchen
If you are longing for one of the dream kitchens we are often showing off (it’s not fair right?) all it takes to love the space you live in, is a good clear out. How about starting with your drawers and cupboards and then, once those are decluttered, you can move the unnecessary kitchen appliances taking up space on your counter tops into your freshly decluttered cupboards, and voila! a new, kitchen! Well one that you are proud of at least! The idea is to pare down and conceal, so you have a minimalist kitchen with maximum style. If you don’t use your food processor, or toaster or juicer every day, pop them in a cupboard, keep the counters clear of clutter.
